Most Taiwanese think their savings are inadequate: poll

TAIPEI -- More than 90 percent of Taiwanese do not think that they have enough savings, according to a survey released by a life insurance company Tuesday.

In the poll among self-defined middle class people in Taiwan, China and Hong Kong, the Taiwanese respondents said total assets of over NT$25 million (US$829,340) would mean financial security, while over NT$55 million would represent affluence.

The online survey, conducted by Real Life Company, showed that 92 percent of Taiwanese feel that their savings are inadequate.

A total of 1,501 middle-class people — 500 from Taiwan, 500 from Hong Kong and 501 from China — took part in the poll in late September 2013.
