TAIPEI -- The first Lunar New Year indoor shopping bazaar, slated for mid-January, will feature a festive atmosphere with an exotic touch, the organizers said Friday.
The "TWTC New Year Shopping Fair" will offer not only traditional Taiwanese dishes, snacks and dried goods but also some from the United States, Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong, Thailand, Greece and Chile, said Peter Huang, president of the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA).
The bazaar will also play host to 80 traditional performances and events, Huang said at a pre-event press conference.
"We'd also like foreign visitors to experience the festive atmosphere," he said, referring to the fact that the venue is close to Taipei 101, a popular tourist attraction.
The bazaar will take place at the Taipei World Trade Center Exhibition Hall 1 from Jan. 16 to Jan. 22 and is expected to attract 100,000 local and foreign buyers, the organizers said.
With over 300 vendors occupying 550 booths, it is aimed at providing consumers with an alternative to Dihua Street in the western part of the capital, the traditional destination for Lunar New Year shopping.
