Taiwan Cement Corp. cements its place as 6th largest supplier in China

TAIPEI -- Taiwan Cement Corp. (台灣水泥), one of Taiwan's top cement manufacturers, remained China's sixth biggest cement supplier by capacity in 2013, according to statistics released by China Cement Net on Friday.

China Cement Net, a Chinese e-commerce site for cement suppliers, said Taiwan Cement had production capacity of 55.27 metric tons in China in 2013, up 2.06 percent from a year earlier when it also ranked sixth.

Another Taiwanese cement maker, Asia Cement Corp. (亞洲水泥), was the 12th largest cement supplier in China, up one notch from a year earlier, after the company increased its production capacity in China by 9.91 percent year-on-year to 23.72 million metric tons.

The Goldsun Group (國產實業), a Taiwan-based conglomerate, took 62nd place in the rankings with production capacity of 3.1 million metric tons of cement in China last year, according to China Cement Net.

The China National Building Material Group topped the 2013 rankings with production capacity of 298 million metric tons, up 2.56 percent from a year earlier, the statistics showed.

Anhui Conch Cement Co. (安徽海螺) ranked second with production capacity growing 3.38 percent from a year earlier to 156 million metric tons, ahead of Sinoma Cement Co. (中材水泥), which had capacity of 83.30 million metric tons, up 14.49 percent year-on-year, according to the website's figures.

Taiwan Cement was particularly strong in certain parts of the country. It was the third largest supplier in southern China with capacity of 21.08 million metric tons, trailing only China Resources (Holdings) Co. and Anhui Conch Cement.

It also ranked fourth in southwest China with production capacity of 14.03 metric tons, behind Southwest Cement Co., France-based Lafarge Cement group, and Anhui Conch Cement.

Taiwanese cement manufacturers benefited from solid domestic demand in China in the fourth quarter, a traditional peak season, and strong demand is expected to continue into January until the Lunar New Year holiday starts at the end of the month, analysts said.

Those peak season effects helped Taiwan Cement's consolidated sales in November rise 16.11 percent year-on-year to a record NT$11.2 billion (US$373 million).

Taiwan Cement's shipments in China also hit a monthly high of 4.45 million metric tons in November.
