TAIPEI -- Facebook has become the brand with the highest search requests by Taiwanese Internet users, according to Google's keyword search rankings released yesterday.
Web portal Yahoo is ranked second on the list, followed by search engine Google, video-sharing site YouTube, online auction site Ruten, telecom operator site Chunghwa Telecom, online shopping site PChome Online and U.S. electronics maker Apple.
Wrapping out the top 10 are Microsoft's messenger service MSN, which was shut down in April 2013, and the Taiwan High Speed Rail Corp.'s website, the results show.
Taiwanese smartphone maker HTC Corp.'s site was one spot shy of making it onto the top 10 brands list, although the number of search requests for the company has increased “significantly” from last year, thanks to the unveiling of many new phone models in 2013, Google said.
For brands with the highest annual growth in search requests, the top five places go to messaging app service Line, Apple, HTC, Japanese electronics maker Sony and Chinese handset maker Xiaomi Corp.
In sixth to 10th positions are local shopping network Momo Shop, Google, local drink chain King Tea, local bakery chain Top Pot Bakery and South Korean electronics maker Samsung, according to Google.
