Chunghwa Telecom set to sell iPad Air, iPad mini 2

TAIPEI--Chunghwa Telecom Co., Taiwan's largest mobile provider, announced Tuesday that it will soon begin selling Apple Inc.'s newest iPad Air and iPad mini 2 tablet computers.

In an emailed statement, Chunghwa Telecom said it will offer the Wi-Fi plus cellular models of the 9.7-inch iPad Air and the smaller iPad mini 2, but did not specify a sales date or the tablet prices. The first shipments of the iPad Air and iPad mini 2 to Chunghwa Telecom would be limited to “thousands of units,” a source familiar with the matter told CNA on condition of anonymity because the sales terms have not yet been made public.

The country's two other major carriers, Taiwan Mobile Co. and Far EasTone Telecommunications Co., said they will start selling the new iPad models soon after the tablets arrive in their warehouses.

The iPad Air is 20-percent thinner and 28-percent lighter than the fourth-generation iPad, while the iPad mini 2 features a razor-sharp retina display.
