TAIPEI, Taiwan -- Benchmark TAIEX on Thursday ended down 0.50 percent at 8,375.54 while the U.S. dollar shed NT$0.002 against the Taiwan dollar (TWD) to close at NT$29.690, according to the Central News Agency.
The weighted index ended down 42.46 points, or 0.50 percent, at 8,375.54, after moving between 8,362.39 and 8,437.60 on turnover of NT$76.24 billion (US$2.58 billion).
Shares in Taiwan closed lower, following a retreat on Wall Street overnight amid renewed worries over an exit by the U.S. Federal Reserve from its current monthly US$85 billion bond-buying program, dealers said.
The U.S. dollar fell against the TWD Thursday, shedding NT$0.002 to close at NT$29.690, with selling largely sparked by the strength of the Japanese yen, dealers told CNA.
