The Singaporean government made the decision after Flavor Full Food Inc., a local company that exports refined cottonseed oil, was dragged into a recent major food scare featuring another oil firm accused of blending cheaper cottonseed oil into more expensive cooking oils to increase profits.
Flavor Full has given an assurance that all of its refined cottonseed oil is perfectly safe for human consumption.
Chang Chi Foodstuff Factory Co., the only other importer of cottonseed oil in Taiwan, recently caused controversy after it was found to have used copper chlorophyllin, a coloring agent that is not permitted for use in cooking oil, in its olive oil and to have adulterated its higher-end cooking oil with cheaper cottonseed oil.
