As of Oct. 15, 1,727 workers from 36 companies had reached agreements with their employers on taking leave without pay, with 1,683 of them currently on furlough, the figures show.
The number rose slightly from Sept. 30, when 1,671 workers from 35 companies had agreed to furloughs with their employers, and 1,625 of them were on unpaid leave.
The Wednesday figures still represented an improvement over the end of August, however, when 2,345 workers from 34 companies had agreed to furloughs, with 2,240 actually taking days off without pay.
Most of the workers on furlough take one to four days off each month, the council said.
The CLA said it will continue to monitor the situation in cooperation with local labor affairs authorities.
