Taiwan consumer confidence down in August
CNATAIPEI--Consumer confidence in Taiwan weakened in August, hurt by a decline in confidence in the domestic stock market, according to a survey released Tuesday.

The consumer confidence index, compiled by the Research Center for Taiwan Economic Development at National Central University, stood at 75.33 in August, down from 76.08 in July.
Based on the survey's methodology, scores of over 100 generally indicate optimism, while those under 100 signal pessimism.
The survey was conducted Aug. 19-23 via telephone with 2,428 randomly selected people over age 20. It had a margin of error of plus or minus 2 percentage points.
