In an electronic newsletter Thursday, HTC said customers in the United States and Canada who buy the HTC One in the period May 2-5 can receive gift cards valued at US$100 to US$375, depending on the smartphone they trade in.
For example, buyers who trade in their Apple iPhone 5 will be eligible to receive US$300-US$375, the iPhone 4S will get them US$200-US$255, the BlackBerry Z10 US$250, and the Samsung Galaxy S III US$130-US$210.
Other eligible devices include the Motorola Droid Razr, which will fetch a refund of US$100-184, the LG Optimus 4X HD US$150 and the BlackBerry Curve/Bold US$100.
The refund will be issued in the form of prepaid Visa gift card and the deadline for mailing in the phones is June 15, according to HTC.
The weekend promotion is an extension of HTC's new marketing campaign for the HTC One that started across the U.S. April 11.
“HTC One Showrooms” have been set up in high-traffic malls across the U.S., and will remain for a minimum of three months, the company said.
The campaign, being held in eight major U.S. cities — Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, Houston, Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco, and Washington, D.C. — aims to offer consumers the opportunity to see, hear and hold the new smartphone, which became available nationwide in late April, HTC said.
