Acer, Asus poised to show new items at Softex 2013
By Ted Chen, The China PostTAIPEI, Taiwan -- Softex 2013 began yesterday in Kaohsiung, and features the launch of several high-profile new models from electronic giants Acer and Asus, representing the first technology show of the year.

The technology tradeshow takes place at the Kaohsiung Exhibition and Convention Center from April 4 to April 7. The event will relocate from April 17 to April 21 to the Taipei World Trade Center (TWTC), Exhibition Hall 1.
Asus will feature its Fonepad, a tablet and phone hybrid, in addition its new flagship handset, the Padfone Infinity, and the Transformer all-in-one platform. Acer will feature its low-priced entry into the tablet market with its Iconia B1, and the touch-screen enabled S7 ultrabook computer. The tradeshow will feature cameras and other sought-after products from a number of manufacturers.
Asus' Fonepad is equipped with full third-generation (3G) network cellular phone functions, while its 7-inch touch-screen panel enables it to be used as a tablet. The device features an in-plane switching display panel with a resolution of 1280x800 pixels, while powered by the Intel Atom Z2420 processor. The device is priced at NT$8,990, with a set of complementary ME371MG headphones included if purchased during the tradeshow. Incidentally, the company indicated a trade-in program for a specific list of older laptops. Customers may receive rebates of up to NT$8,000 on their next purchase of Asus computers, said the company.
Acer this year will feature the Iconia B1 tablet which is priced competitively at under NT$5,000. In addition, the company's is promoting its S7 ultrabook computer, and the W510 and W700 Windows 8 operating system-equipped tablets.
