Standard Chartered and Financial Times to hold Taiwan summit

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- Standard Chartered Bank and London-based business newspaper The Financial Times will jointly hold the Taiwan Economic Summit Thursday in Taipei to discuss the challenges facing Taiwan, and the policy needed to revitalize the nation.

The summit will commence with a keynote address by President Ma Ying-jeou and will be co-hosted by The Financial Times' Asia Editor David Pilling and Chief Foreign Affairs Commentator Gideon Rachman. Other keynote speakers include Nobel economics laureate Thomas Sargent and Standard Chartered Group CEO Peter Sands, who will join Pilling in a keynote interview on the future of banking in a changing world. Former President Vincent Siew will also be present to deliver the ending keynote speech.

 The event will gather policymakers, business leaders, economists and financiers including Standard Chartered's Group Executive Director and Asia Chief Executive Officer Jaspal Bindra, Far Eastern Group Chairman Douglas Hsu, former Chairman of Landis Taipei Hotel Stanley Yen and Minister of the Council for Economic Planning and Development Kuan Chung-ming, etc., in the discussions on restoring the growth and competitiveness of Taiwan.
