New HTC Desire P handset clears regulatory approvalCNA TAIPEI -- A new mobile device made by Taiwan's HTC Corp. was approved for sale Monday by the National Communications Commission (NCC), Taiwan's top broadcasting regulator.
March 13, 2013, 12:41 am TWN The 3G mobile handset with the name “HTC Desire P” was approved following product testing by Sporton International Inc., a Taipei-based certification service provider. No hardware specifications or pictures of the new device were supplied and HTC declined to comment. Despite the lack of information, market analysts said the new HTC handset could be aimed at the midrange segment of the mobile market due to its product name. At a press conference held Feb. 19 to unveil its newest HTC One smartphone, HTC said its flagship devices in the future will be named the “One” series, while its entry- to mid-range models will be called “Desire.” That was illustrated when HTC launched its “Desire U” smartphone in Taiwan in January as the latest addition to its lower-end product offering. The 4-inch Desire U, featuring a mono-core 1-gigahertz processor and Beats Audio technology, starts at NT$7,990 (US$269) and is an attempt by HTC to tap the market of first-time smartphone users, the Taoyuan-based company said.
