HTC fires engineer for leaking phone secretsThe China Post news staff TAIPEI, Taiwan -- A senior engineer has been fired by High Tech Computer (HTC) for leaking trade secrets concerning a new smartphone before it was launched by the vendor, a newspaper reported yesterday.
March 7, 2013, 11:58 am TWN The engineer, Tai Wei-jao, 28, took along a prototype of the HTC Butterfly smartphone to a gathering of his high school classmates, and showed them the new phone last August, the Apple Daily said. Someone took pictures of the phone and later posted them on the Internet, the paper said. HTC then sued Tai for the leak, but later settled the case out of court, with the engineer paying the company an undisclosed sum, the paper said. Prosecutors in Taoyuan on Tuesday concluded their own probe without pressing charges against Tai, since he had not leaked the secrets intentionally and had already reached a settlement with HTC.
