E-publishing woes shared: Leipzig's book fair chief

TAIPEI--Book fairs in Germany and Taiwan are facing similar challenges from e-publishing and how to attract readers to book fairs, Oliver Zille, director of Germany's Leipzig Book Fair, said yesterday at the Taipei International Book Exhibition.

Zille stated that one of the reasons he decided to come to the fair was to learn more about new media and e-publishing.

He said, however, that he was “a little astonished” to find that there are not as many e-books on show as he had imagined, and added that Taiwan's situation could be similar to that of Germany, where he said e-books currently account for only 1 percent of the total book market.
