TAIEX announces top 3 financial holding firmsBy Linger Liu, The China Post TAIPEI, Taiwan -- Fubon Financial Holding Co. (富邦金控) made the highest net income among Taiwan's 15 financial holding companies by the end of 2012, statistics provided by the TAIEX show.
January 11, 2013, 12:01 am TWN Taiwan's 15 financial holding firms have released their net profits for last year according to the Market Observation Post System of the Taiwan Stock Exchange. Fubon Financial Holding Co. (富邦金控) led the group with a net income of NT$28.6 billion, and reached the highest earnings per share (EPS) of NT$3. Fubon had the highest net income of the top 15 firms for the fifth-consecutive year. According to Fubon Financial President Victor Kong (龔天行), the sale of Fubon Multimedia Technology Co. (富邦媒體科技), which operates a major nationwide TV shopping channel, MoMo TV, earned NT$8 billion in profits for the company, but the actual deposited amount to the firm was only NT$800 million last year. Top Three Performers Mega Financial Holding Co. (兆豐金控) reported net income of NT$21.51 billion last year. Its net income for December 2012 was NT$859 million. Also, it reached the highest earnings per share (EPS) of NT$1.88. Chinatrust Financial Holding Co. (中信金控) made net income of NT$21.18 billion last year. Its net income for December 2012 was NT$1.73 billion and had an earnings per share (EPS) of NT$1.65. Fubon Financial Holding Co. (富邦金控), Mega Financial Holding Co. (兆豐金控) and Chinatrust Financial Holding Co. (中信金控) are the only three Taiwan-listed financial holding companies that reached an annual net income of more than NT$20 billion last year. Banking and Life Insurance Sectors Cathay Financial Holding Co. (國泰金控), the nation's largest financial services provider by assets, earned an annual net income of NT$17.03 billion and an EPS of NT$1.6. Its monthly net income was NT$1.46 billion in December 2012. Cathay Financial Holding Co.'s banking service sector made an annual net income of NT$13.07 billion and monthly net income of NT$900 million in December 2012. Shin Kong Financial Holding Co. (新光金控), one of the nation's biggest life insurance companies, saw a decline in monthly net income of NT$354 million in December 2012. By the end of 2012, it had returned to overall positive performance. By end-2012 the firm's net income reached NT$9.77 billion, doubling its annual net income from a year before. Shin Kong's EPS was NT$1.16.
