OLED TV panels made by AU, Sony on display at CESThe China Post news staff TAIPEI, Taiwan -- AU Optronics, Taiwan's leading flat panel manufacturer, yesterday announced that panels for high-resolution organic light-emitting diode (OLED) TVs, which it jointly developed with Sony, are currently on display at the Consumer Electronics Show held in Las Vegas.
January 10, 2013, 1:55 pm TWN “We developed the panels to usher in the '4K Ultra HD' era,” AU said. The 56-inch panels are the world's largest made with the OLED technology. They are also the world's first OLED TV panels to achieve the so-called 4K resolution (3,420 x 2,160 pixels). “Back in 2009, AU developed capability to make 14-inch OLED TV panels with full HD resolution,” said Peng Shuang-lang, president of AU. “In 2011, we unveiled 32-inch full HD OLED TV panels with the thickness of only three millimeters.” “The capability that we have accumulated over the years and our ability to respond to market trends have enabled us to continue to evolve and make progress,” he added. Besides OLED panels, AU also brought to the premier electronics show a variety of high-resolution products, including large-size 4K Ultra HD panels for LCD TVs. The 65-inch model is applied to TVs with frames of less than one centimeter, offering an exhilarating visual experience, the firm said. Another exhibit is the 55-inch 4K TV panel made with the “wide-color gamut” technology that allows viewers to see things in their truest colors, it said. |
