Cross-strait passengers at Taichung Port soar in 2012CNA TAIPEI--The number of cross-Taiwan Strait passengers using the Port of Taichung rose five times in 2012, thanks mainly to increased ferry services to and from China, according to statistics released yesterday by the port authorities.
January 5, 2013, 12:06 am TWN The port received 120,000 cross-strait passengers last year, up from 20,000 in 2011, the statistics show. This was attributed to the addition of four ferries per week between Taichung and the southeastern Chinese province of Fujian that year, port officials said. Regular Taichung-Fujian ferry services were launched in 2011. The service now covers Fujian's Xiamen City and Pingtan Island.
