Large TVs are employers' most favored year-end banquet giftsBy Ted Chen,The China Post TAIPEI, Taiwan -- Large TVs measuring more than 46 inches are employers' most favored year-end banquet items, according to a recent survey.
January 4, 2013, 12:02 am TWN This represents a shift from 10-inch tablet computers, which were the previous most popular item. Demand for smaller tablet computers such as the Google Nexus 7, and Apple's iPad mini are up, and have become a popular gift choice, according to the survey. Large TVs, once only available as the elusive top prize, are now on the procurement list for many companies. Recent price drops have made it a viable gift option, with many retailers offering steep discounts for 42-inch or larger TVs. Meanwhile, with the arrival of winter many small to medium companies are trending towards heaters, dehumidifiers and other home appliances as their choice of year-end gifts, the survey said. However, in light of recent economic difficulties, many employees said they would rather cash over gift items. Retailers said they are concerned over the lack of companies paying year-end bonuses, which may hamper the traditional surge in consumption before Chinese New Year holidays.
