Sales of Hon Hai's 60-inch LCD TV may surpass 10,000 by the end of the year, earlier than the firm had expected and indicating the popularity of the TVs, the Central News Agency reported yesterday, citing unnamed sources inside the company.
According to the sources, Hon Hai had expected the 10,000 mark to be reached by next year's Chinese New Year, which falls in February. Yet sales have been red hot since the TVs, which are sold through the channels of Chunghwa Telecom and Kbro, hit the market on Nov. 11.
Chunghwa Telecom said it has already seen sales surpass 2,000, higher than the 1,000 the firm had hoped for. By the end of the year a total of 5,000 units may be sold, it said.
To meet the insatiable demands, Hon Hai has boosted its daily capacity to 300, and will increase the output volume further to 500 after mid-December, the report said.
It is expected by Chinese New Year that Hon Hai will have a monthly capacity of 5,000 to 20,000, according to the report.
Meanwhile, the report also said Hon Hai plans to roll out standalone TVs by the Lunar New Year. Currently the TVs are bundled to the plans of Chunghwa Telecom and Kbro.
And Hon Hai's ambition does not end there. According to recent remarks by Tai Cheng-wu, deputy CEO of Hon Hai, the firm is planning to roll out 70-inch and 80-inch TVs in the near future.
