Windows 8 devices to take center stage at IT Month

TAIPEI--IT Month, Taiwan's largest consumer electronics show, will feature various new mobile devices running Microsoft Corp.'s touch-friendly Windows 8 operating system, the organizer said yesterday.

Scheduled for Dec. 1-9 in Taipei, IT Month will allow local consumers to get their hands on Windows 8 notebooks and tablet computers, including detachable and convertible models, said the Taipei Computer Association, which organizes the event.

The nine-day fair is expected to attract over 900,000 visitors, almost the same as the total number of visitors it recorded last year, the association said.

Acer Inc., which has bet on Windows 8 to bring about a turnaround for the company, said it plans to sell its new 11.6- and 13.3 inch S7 ultrabook this year, with prices starting at NT$42,900 (US$1,476). The company will also sell its 10.1-inch W510 tablet priced at NT$23,900.

Asustek Computer Inc., which has been spending heavily on marketing its Windows 8 products, said it will offer its VivoBook ultrabook line for 11.6- and 14-inch models during IT Month, starting from NT$21,900.
