Japan manufacturer pumps NT$100 mil. into local plant

TAIPEI--A Japan-based grating plate manufacturer has invested NT$100 million (US$3.42 million) in a Taiwanese subsidiary, becoming the first Japanese enterprise to operate in an industrial park in Tainan in Southern Taiwan, according to a statement released yesterday by the Ministry of Economic Affairs.

The Daikure plant, slated to officially begin production next October, will produce welded finned tubes, a key component in air coolers, the statement said. Daikure, established in 1951, has a 70-percent share in the product's domestic market.

The 32-hectare park in the Tainan Technology Industrial Park was established to attract Japanese investors in the wake of the March 11 earthquake of 2011 and due to the rising Japanese yen. It is divided into 25 rental areas.

The Tainan plant will be Daikure's third overseas production base in addition to ones in Thailand and Vietnam, and will be its center for production, marketing and customer service for its heat exchange products for markets in China and Southeast Asia.
