Hon Hai offers workers cut-rate TV trial: report

Hon Hai Precision has already completed the production of its 60-inch large-screen TV and will offer units of it to employees at below NT$40,000 apiece, the Central News Agency reported yesterday, citing Hon Hai sources.

The TV was made from large-size panels produced by Hon Hai subsidiary Sakai Display Products, which is located in Osaka, Japan, and makes 10-generation panels. Units of the TV are now being offered to employees for trial purposes.

According to this source, the targets of the trial operation are senior executives and employees who are involved with Hon Hai's TV business. Some hundreds of employees were selected for the trial, under which they can get the TV for less than NT$40,000.

The trial period will be followed by the official launch of the TV, which may come out in the near future, the source said.

Hon Hai attaches great importance to the trial, which will pave way for the TV's retail in the rest of the world.

The TV will not only enter the homes but will also make its way into office spaces and public arenas. To find out how its market acceptance may be in the future, Hon Hai has asked employees to try the TV under different scenarios and with different connections, the source said.

The TV will come with smart TV features, allowing the user to perform a variety of tasks, such as downloading apps and surfing the Internet, besides watching TV, he said.
