HTC announces local launch of Japan model

HTC, a leading smartphone manufacturer, yesterday announced the Taiwan launch of the HTC J, which has already achieved huge popularity in Japan.

The phone targeting the middle- to high-end segments of the market was launched in Japan back in May under a partnership between HTC and Japanese operator KDDI and was hugely popular among Japanese consumers. This time around HTC has teamed up with Taiwan Mobile to launch the device, which targets younger users.

HTC is set to roll out new flagship models powered by the Android and Win 8 operating systems on Sept. 19 in New York. Before that time, howevere, HTC has distributed mid-level phones throughout Asia to great success.

After its launch of the Desire X back in August, it yesterday rolled out the HTC J, which can be obtained for NT$990 when bundled with Taiwan Mobile's NT$1,398 monthly plan. Users will get the additional benefit of making free intra-network calls.

The phone has a 1.5GHz CPU and features the Android 4.0 operating system. It supports both WCDMA and CDMA systems and can be used by customers of nearly all major Taiwan operators. The phone also is equipped with a 4.3-inch AMOLED screen and has two cameras: one with resolution of 1.3 megapixels in the front and one with resolution of 8 megapixels on the back.
