US firms willing to invest US$200 mil. in TW: gov't

NEW YORK--Companies in the United States are ready to inject some US$200 million into investment projects in Taiwan, Vice Economics Minister Cho Shih-chao said Monday in New York.

Cho told reporters that a Taiwanese trade and talent recruitment delegation visiting the U.S. has so far drawn investment projects totaling US$211 million to Taiwan.

The delegation arrived in New York a day earlier.

Detroit-based Air Products and Chemicals Inc. has said it will invest US$100 million in Taiwan, while Rante Corp., an online advertising agency, said it will put US$10 million into a cloud-based data center for government procurement projects.

In addition, Harvard Bed Frame said it will inject US$1 million for building a plant in Taiwan. The company also said it plans to cooperate with Taiwan's machine tool sector on developing bed frame-building tools, according to the Economics Ministry.

Meanwhile, the Friendwell Group of Companies said it will spend more than US$100 million on building outlets and international hotels in Taiwan, the ministry said.
