HTC's revenues forecast to rebound in Sept.

TAIPEI -- Smartphone maker HTC Corp. will see a rebound in its monthly revenues in September after a decline in sales for several months, according to a research note released by SinoPac Securities Investment Service yesterday.

The report based its optimistic forecast in part to the imminent launch of HTC J — the Taiwan company's best-selling handset in Japan — in the home market.

HTC J, which was first released in Japan in April this year with high-end features in a mid-tier package, will hit local store shelves Tuesday.

The device runs on a 1.5 Ghz dual core Qualcomm processor and the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system and features mobile payment technology, according to media reports.

HTC partnered with KDDI Corp., Japan's second largest mobile operator, to sell the new handset, which has emerged as HTC's best-selling smartphone in Japan.

The release of HTC J in Taiwan will help stimulate the Taiwan company's sales, bringing its monthly revenues for September to NT$30 billion, the SinoPac report forecast.

HTC's revenues slid to NT$24 billion in August, down 4 percent from July, according to the report.

The report further said that HTC's launch of nine new devices in the second half of the year, including its 5-inch flagship DLX, its One X and One V phones, and two Windows Phone 8 models, will help drive up its revenues between September and October.

Nevertheless, the report cautioned that the sustainability of HTC's sales rebound remains to be seen because the company will face competition from Apple Inc.'s iPhone 5, which may become available in Taiwan in November.
