TAIPEI--Taiwanese manufacturer Asustek Computer Inc. saw its strongest year-on-year growth of 24.8 percent in its shipments in the second quarter, bucking a declining trend in the Asia-Pacific region, according to research firm Gartner Inc. yesterday.
The vendor, which holds fifth place in the region in terms of market share, was one of only two of the top five companies to record shipment growth, it said.
According to Gartner, Asia-Pacific PC shipments for the quarter totaled 30.3 million units, representing a downward trend by 2.6 percent compared with the same period of 2011.
A 5.4 percent decline in China's PC market was the main factor behind the falling shipments, coupled with the wide array of alternative products in the market that has reduced interest in PC spending, said Lillian Tay, principal analyst for Gartner.
China's Lenovo Group, which recorded year-on-year shipment growth of 12.6 percent, remained in top position in terms of market share in the Asia Pacific region, Gartner said.
