Acer to sell e-readers in Germany through Libri

BERLIN -- Personal computer vendor Acer Inc. will unveil its e-reader products through Libri, one of Germany's book wholesale service providers, in October, a Libri official said.

Libri Sales Manager Miriam Hofheinz said the Acer e-readers will be sold for 199 euros (NT$8,000).

Hofheinz said Acer is expected to introduce another e-reader model in November that will have the universal mobile telecommunications system installed. It will be priced at 249 euros.

Before the official launch on the Libri distribution network, the e-readers were demonstrated in the Libri booth at the IFA, a six-day consumer electronics and home appliance trade show in Berlin that will end Wednesday.

Acer has been making efforts to diversify its product line in an attempt to alleviate the impact of falling gross margins for PC sales.
