Young UK, Taiwan scientists meet at landmark symposium

Speaking at a press conference, Director of the British Council in Taipei Christine Skinner described the partnership between the main organizers and sister universities, Imperial College London and National Yang-Ming University, as a “real relationship” that involves doing real work on important issues.

“We feel this is a real strength, an area of real interest in Taiwan, which the UK needs to be much more aware of,” Skinner added. “We believe that there is a very low awareness, especially among UK universities, of some of the potential strength in Taiwan, and some of the opportunities that exist in Taiwan for collaboration.”

Sir Roy Malcolm Anderson, who will assume the post of rector of Imperial College London in August, said that the UK school is very keen to encourage collaboration in areas of mutual interest.

“We are looking very closely at collaboration and scientific interaction in other areas, especially in alternative energy, which is of special interest at Imperial College,” he said.
