AmCham takes tour of Pacific RFID Performance Center

The American Chamber of Commerce Technology Committee earlier this week organized a tour of the Yeon Technologies Pacific RFID Performance Center (PRPC) static test lab in Neihu, followed by a visit to the YFY Packaging Design Center and PRPC dynamic test lab in Taoyuan.

According to Nancy Tai, president of Yeon Technologies, PRPC adheres to guidelines established by EPCglobal — an organization set up to achieve world-wide adoption and standardization of electronic product code (EPC) technology in an ethical and responsible way.

“The EPCglobal Performance Test Center Accreditation Program was established to assure companies that center services meet a standardized set of performance test profiles to simulate real-world conditions.”

The Pacific RFID Performance Center — operated by Yeon Technologies Co. Ltd. — consists of a multi-functional static test lab and an EPCglobal-accredited dynamic test lab. The center provides static testing, dynamic testing, tag performance measurements, antenna performance measurements and RFID industrial consulting services. “These services,” said Tai, “are designed for companies that conduct product development or applications.”

The tour offered AmCham executives an opportunity to check out the performance of various UHF RFID tags on pallets, cases and individual consumer or commercial products. “We are glad to share our RFID experiences, and more importantly, some insights and trend of UHF RFID applications in supply chain management,” said Tai.

The Pacific RFID Performance Center, she stressed, is the only center awarded accreditation in the Asia-Pacific (and one of nine centers globally). The state-of-art static test lab was developed by Yeon Technologies and Ohio State University’s Electro-Science Lab, “It is an unparalleled, first-in-class lab, specifically designed for RFID performance tests,” said Tai. Located in the Neihu Technology Park, the lab provides not only performance measurement of tags and antennas, but also individual case performance tests and pallet performance tests in its unique anechoic chamber.

The EPCglobal-accredited dynamic test lab is located near the YFY Packaging Design Center in Taoyuan. In addition to EPCglobal-standard conveyor portal tests and dock door portal tests, the PRPC dynamic test lab provides integration services for RFID-enabled solutions to packaging — a joint effort between Yeon Technologies and YFY Packaging Inc. The YFY Packaging Design Center specializes in structural and graphic designs of color boxes and corrugated boxes. It also provides the RFID-enabled packaging products and services in the Asia-Pacific region.

Jim White, AmCham Technology Committee co-chair, was highly impressed. “Yeon is clearly at the leading edge in this field; it possesses the only regionally certified test capabilities, which encompass all facets from tag design to system integration. As such, it is in a good position as total solution providers to companies in Taiwan and the region.”
