There are dozens of these clubs around the world. The very first was Welcome to Washington International Club, which was founded in 1959, since Washington, D.C. is the hub of hundreds of diplomatic missions. The purpose of these clubs is to bring harmony, understanding, friendship, and peace to people regardless of race, religion, or any other differences. The Taipei Club President is Teresa Chih-hsuan Hou; Vice Presidents are Alice Huang and Priscilla Tsai; Executive Supervisor is Julie Chien; and Supervisors are Patricia Wen, Gwendolyn Chien, Athenia Kuo, and Shelly Wen. The Secretary-General is Jen-hwey Chia. The WTIC includes members of the diplomatic corps, foreign business firms, and local prominent ladies. The club provides a variety of classes for members, such as Art and Culture, Chinese Painting, Golf, International Cooking, Tai Chi Chuan (Shadow Boxing), Traditional Chinese Knotting, Chinese Conversation, Ping Pong, and Chi Gong (to improve health by exercises and breathing control methods).
