They expressed their gratitude to Club President Teresa Chih-hsuan Hou, wife of the Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Ching-shan Hou, and the club’s founders, Mrs. Patricia Wen and Mrs. Julie Chien. President Hou said in her welcome speech that February was really a month for family, love, and friendship. The Chinese Lunar New Year was blessed with the Western Valentine’s Day — what a wonderful combination of East and West! Mrs. Hou pointed out the rat is the first of the twelve zodiac signs. Even though it is the smallest, the rat has a leading role, and its importance is not the least. She said that the Chinese ancient forefathers had the wisdom to associate the animals of the zodiac signs with lucky wishes. She indicated that the pronunciation of the word “rat” is the homonym for the word “counting,” so, with the arrival of the year of the rat, everyone will have countless riches. The club arranged a unique way to welcome all the members. At the entrance of the Grand Ballroom, everyone passed a demonstration table, to watch the Formosa Regent’s chef making sweet rice balls, a specialty of the Lantern Festival. Everyone had the chance to savour a bowl. Subscribe to The China Post and save 25%. Click here |
