Updated Saturday, February 16, 2008 0:00 am TWN, CNA I-Shou University to open international schoolThe university is now studying what departments, courses and subjects will be covered by the school, I-Shou University President Fu Shen-li said. The international school, featuring an all-foreign language learning environment, will have all courses taught in foreign language at the university transferred to the new school, Fu added. “We are planning to open management classes next academic semester on a trial basis for 25 undergraduate students who will be selected from various schools except management schools,” Fu noted. In light of a severe lack of nursing professionals in many Western countries, the university has also decided to set up a department of global health and international nursing, with relevant courses to be taught in foreign languages, according to Fu, who added that students will also be recruited from Southeast Asian countries. The construction of the international school complex is expected to be completed by the end of this year, according to Fu. The establishment of the new school is part of the school’s measures to respond to the Ministry of Education’s call for promotion of campus internationalization, which also includes conducting exchanges with foreign sister-schools, encouraging students to engage in overseas studies, enlisting foreign students and the creation of an international affairs division.
