The last one — held in September by the poolside — was a great success.” According to Hartigan, the food and beverage team has really taken shape under Fisher’s leadership. “One of the most attractive points is the incredible variety,” said Hartigan. “We have foods to suit every taste: Vietnamese prawn rolls, spicy chicken tortilla wraps, a selection of German sausages, Malaysian beef satays, vegetarian samosas with cucumber ratta, Tandoori kebabs, and baked spinach and mushroom quiche. I would like to take this opportunity to remind you that we also do catering,” he added with a laugh. “The food is amazing,” said British Chamber Executive Director Kim Moore. “I love coming here. The staff is wonderful; they are so sunny.” Moore was particularly enamored of the beef with grilled bell peppers on toast. “The American Club has a very good atmosphere,” said French Chamber President Jean-Louis Moraud. As he remarked about the number of kind people present, his chic wife Isabelle took the opportunity to steal away his glass of wine with an impish smile. She found the event to be “a very elegant soiree with excellent food and wine.” When informed that the wine was in fact French, Moraud quipped that, “No wonder it is so good.” “I think holding this type of event once every three months is a fantastic idea,” said Peter Sutton, a director of the European Chamber. “The food is excellent, the conversations scintillating; I always feel happy at these events.” Sutton noted that the all-chamber happy hour is also a great place to network. “I like to ask people about their forecasts for the upcoming legislative and presidential elections,” said Sutton tongue-in-cheek. The well-known analyst had just been complaining about being frequently misquoted in the local press. Many of the business executives present had high praise for the American Club because there is no smoking. “I am so glad that the event is not being held at some smoky, grotty pub,” said one participant. “This is far more professional place to be. It sets the right kind of tone.” The next all-chamber event will be held in March. Subscribe to The China Post and save 25%. Click here |
