w, which opened yesterday at Taipei World Trade Center, Exhibition Hall I. Taiwan's top car exhibition will run until Jan. 7, 2008. "The Tiguan, often nicknamed the 'small brother' of the Touareg, can be recommended for drivers who enjoy outdoor activities in the country," Dr. Olaf Duebel, Volkswagen Group Singapore's managing director, said yesterday to The China Post.
Duebel noted that SUV drivers will enjoy the unique appearance and versatility in the Tiguan, without compromising the level of comfort, agility and variability that Volkswagen is known for worldwide.
Volkswagen Tiguans come in three versions, Trend & Fun, Sport & Style and Track & Field, which are offered in two body variants.
The Trend & Fun and Sport & Style versions are primarily designed for on-road use, as their safe and highly comfortable driving behaviors are perfect for city or countryside driving experiences. At the same time, they do not shy away from either off-road drives or trailer loads, but leave the really rock-tough off-road routes to the Volkswagen Tiguan Track & Field variant.
This model is specially designed for life off of the asphalted trails, as it proposes a 28-degree entry angle before impacting the car's front. The standard version has a newly developed off-road mode that controls a wide range of assistance systems making off-road drives especially safe and relaxing.
Further, the new SUV comes with standard features that make parking or navigating in cities and countries a real piece of cake. With a one click of a button, the Tiguan can be parked nearly automatically in the urban jungle by the Park Assist feature.
For off-road driving, Tiguan is equipped with the latest radio-navigation system (RNS 510) which can bring its occupants back to civilization using its off-road function. Meanwhile, with up to 1,510 liters of cargo space and 2,500 kilograms of trailer load, the Volkswagen Tiguan exhibits the same qualities as middle-size vans.
Duebel explained that the five various engines available on the Tiguan are "charged" without exception. It is a premiere in the global SUV market, he went on, as charged engines deliver powerful propulsion, less fuel consumption and lower gas emissions.
Volkswagen will propose three TSIs model for gasoline engines: a direct injection engine with turbo-charging or turbo-charging plus super-charging. The four cylinders deliver 110 kW / 150 PS, 125 kW / 170 PS and 147 kW / 200 PS, respectively.
In addition, the two TDI engines available on the Volkswagen Tiguan are the direct result of new technological developments. There will be a 103 kW / 140 PS and a more powerful 125 kW / 170 PS TDIs, which both offer the quietest diesel engines of their class. The direct-injection turbo-diesel engines are also eco-friendly as they already fulfill the Euro-5 regulation that won't go into effect before 2009.
