Volkswagen develops technologies in compliance with environment

Volkswagen will keep on developing new technologies that are in compliance with environmental requirements and customer demands, a managing director of Volkswagen Singapore said yesterday, while he officiated at the opening ceremony of the Volkswagen’s booth at the 2008 Taipei International Auto Show.

“With the effects of global warming, the issues of energy conservation and environmental protection have become increasingly crucial to Volkswagen,” said Dr. Olaf Duebel, Volkswagen Group Singapore’s managing director.

Duebel explained that in addition to the already well-known TDI technology, Volkswagen has developed a new range of innovative technologies to gradually overcome fuel consumption problems.

He cited for example the TSI engines, which are based on a downsizing concept that still allows direct injection and turbo-charging.

“Yet, the engine still delivers excellent torque and power output combined with low fuel consumption, that is friendlier to the environment,” he added.

Accordingly, Duebel noted that in the months ahead, Volkswagen will continue this forward momentum and introduce several exciting new products. Among them will be the Tiguan, a second generation of SUVs, which already won “The Golf Steering” in Germany.

“The upcoming introduction of this model into the local market truly represents our highest regards for Taiwan,” he said.

Volkswagen’s brand value and achievements in Taiwan market are significantly conveyed by the excellent sales performance of the German brand on the island. In a recent J.D. Power CSI survey, Volkswagen ranked No. 2 for its complete product range that spans from the compact Polo to the luxury limousine Phaeton.
