Erasmus Mundus grants open to Taiwan students

Taiwanese students are encouraged to apply for the Erasmus Mundus grants, scholarships offered by the European Union for studies at some of the continent’s most renowned institutions, announced the European Economic and Trade Office (EETO).

Grant application deadlines for the 2008-9 academic year vary from the end of December to mid-January. Students are strongly encouraged to mail in their applications before Dec. 31, ETTO said.

Students may choose from 103 master’s courses where the scholarships are offered. Courses cover a whole range of academic studies, from natural sciences to the social sciences, including engineering, electronics, information technology, environmental studies, arts, history, agronomics, physics, mathematics, economics, and language studies.

The scholarship is very generous and reaches up to 2,100 euro (NT$90,000) per month over 10 months.

Each graduate course offers a high level of training and an opportunity to experience life and studies in two different EU countries, EETO said.

More than 30 students from Taiwan have already obtained Erasmus Mundus scholarships since 2005, it said.

“We strongly encourage interested students to apply, provided their educational background corresponds closely to the requirements of each Master’s course,” EETO said. “Don’t be shy, apply for Erasmus Mundus master’s courses.”

More information is available on EETO’s Internet Web site at www.deltwn.ec.europa.eu. The Web site: ec.europa.eu/education/programmes/mundus/projects/index_en.html provides a complete list of existing Master’s courses.
