BNP Paribas serves local market with globally competitive strengths

In the publication’s November issue, BNP Paribas Securities Taiwan was ranked as the best in the categories of “Sales Trading” and “Best Execution,” in addition to several top rankings for individual analysts and salespersons. Meanwhile, it took the lead for research in the fields of “Semiconductor & Semiconductor Equipment” and “Technology Hardware & Equipment.”

As for the banking services, Rousselet mentioned one particular advantage of BNP Paribas: “Three years ago, its Shanghai incorporated subsidiary set up a specific desk for serving Taiwanese clients in China, providing a strong cross-straits financial services network to serve those with active business around the Greater China area.”

Global influence

While the bank continues its efforts to introduce new products and services to cope with the changing financial market around the world, what's more important is to discerningly combine the strength of each products and services to meet the specific needs of different clients, said Rousselet.

BNP Paribas boasts a high potential of synergies through cross-selling, strong command of risks, and strong dynamic towards innovation, “With its well-balanced portfolio, effective control of costs and strong command of risks, the bank sees no serious impact from the rising euro or falling dollar,” said Rousselet.

BNP Paribas was voted as “The Best Overall Provider of FX Services” in Asiamoney’s 2006 FX Services Poll. Also in 2006, BNP Paribas was named “The Best Derivatives Provider in Asia” by Global Finance magazine, further reinforcing its regional position for credit derivatives business in Asia.

BNP Paribas now operates in 85 countries, with a total of 161,000 employees around the world. The international bank recorded revenues of 7.69 billion euros for Q3, up 12.6 percent from one year ago. During the same period, its gross operating income grew by 18.7 percent to stand at 3.047 billion euros, and its net income group share rose 21 percent to 2.027 billion euros.

For the bank's long-term operations, Standard & Poor's gives it an AA+ (stable outlook) rating, similar to the Aa1 (stable outlook) by Moody's or the AA (stable outlook) by Fitch.

Taipei’s impression

Although Rousselet has assumed his new position in Taipei for only two months, he doesn’t feel alien to the city at all. In fact, he personally has a special feeling about Taipei because it’s the first city in the Greater China area that he had ever visited, “I had been in Taipei 23 years ago when I was a student coming here for a two-month Chinese language program.” Rousselet couldn’t remember exactly where he had stayed at that time because the city has changed a lot over the past two decades.

When Rousselet first came into contact with Chinese language and calligraphy in his own country, he was fascinated with the Oriental culture, his passion for the East has accompanied him the entire way, as he has built up his financial career in the Greater China area. “I like Taipei, so I’m very happy to take the position here,” he added. In his views, Taipei has become a much more beautiful city, with a clean environment and modern buildings and what lies deep in his soul is the unforgettable memories for learning more about Chinese culture in his early years.
