Updated Friday, December 14, 2007 0:00 am TWN, By Dimitri Bruyas, The China Post Enjoy a unique experience for all the senses in Macau"The projection of colorful mosaics on historical sites, is a new experience that tourists can enjoy at night in Macau," said Pauline Leung, the Taiwan representative of the Macau Government Tourist Office, during a recent interview with The China Post. Leung noted that the growth in the tourist industry has been impressive in recent years, but Macau now offers new opportunities with the recent opening of new Las Vegas-like resorts, spas and stylish shopping malls. Macau also plays host to a broad variety of festivals and events all year around. "We celebrate all festivals in Macau," added Leung, who noted that Chinese and Western religious festivals are both equally celebrated in Macau. Furthermore, other festivals, such as the Macau International Fireworks Display Contest, the Macau Grand Prix and the Macau International Marathon and the Macau International Music Festival, have become landmark activities in the region in recent years. According to Leung, the Macau Grand Prix is one of the world's premier auto racing events. This year's race took place last October, but what distinguishes it from others is that the Macau Grand Prix is run through the city streets. Another prominent event, although the great majority of the population in Macau is not Christian, is the Christmas season in Macau which is particularly different, as shops and restaurants prepare special Portuguese delicacies and the entire city is decorated with lights. "Chinese and Western cultures blend together in Macau," she said. Evidence of this blend can be found everywhere in Macau, starting from the fact that both Chinese and Portuguese are the official regional languages, with English also widely spoken. There is also the traditional Macanese food. Leung explained that Macau is known for its fantastic restaurants, featuring Chinese and Western cuisine at an affordable price. Meanwhile, according to Leung, now is the perfect time to travel to Macau because the weather is so nice during the winter, and because the Macau government is running a number of promotion activities for the upcoming Christmas and Chinese New Year sessions. "But you have to book your trip earlier," added Leung. If you are interested in finding more about Macau, you will have the opportunity to do so at the upcoming 2007 Taipei International Travel Fair (Taipei ITF) to be held at the Taipei World Trade Center from Dec. 13 to 17.
