While the festive cranberry punch and wine bar had everyone in very good spirits by the time lunch rolled around, attendees were dismayed to hear that Santa had to call in sick. Fortunately, svelte ACC Food & Beverage Director Simon Fisher was on hand to step in and deliver Christmas cookies for the ailing red-suited resident of the North Pole. “I was really grateful that Santa was able to get in touch with Simon by cellphone,” said Marwood with a laugh. She was also quick to praise Anne Quy, one of the original organizers, Community Services Center Director Mary Chua and Father Jon van Aerth, priest at the Mother of God Church who is in charge of administration at St. Anne’s Home. Lunch, said Marwood, was fabulous. “Simon really went all out. We had fantastic Christmas turkey and ham; the dressing was a real hit.” This preceded the sing-along with Richard Saunders. “This is the third time that Richard has come to play the piano for the group,” said Marwood. “He really had all the antlered, Santa-hatted group rocking!” A raffle drawing officially concluded the event, though Marwood noted with mirth that “many of the ladies were still chatting for a long time thereafter.” She requested that special thanks be given to Hew Alvin, the ACC, Victoria Bunao Olsen, Lisa Chao, JoAnn Filipe, Gwen Harris, Ingrid Moore, Mary Hensley and Stephen Walker of Marks and Spencer.
