His Majesty's work has touched on diverse fields and has truly demonstrated his fidelity to the Oath of Accession to the throne on May 5, 1950, which reads, "I shall reign with righteousness for the benefit and happiness of the Siamese people" (Thailand was then called Siam). His dedication to the cause of rural people's happiness has earned His Majesty the abiding respect and deep affection of the nation, as well as caught the attention of those from afar who herald his initiatives as an exemplary model of sustainable and integrated development for developing countries. Throughout his reign, many honors have been bestowed upon His Majesty for such devotion. The United Nations Development Program (UNDP) has honored His Majesty with the Human Development Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of His Majesty's dedication and lifelong work on the development of the Thai people. Moreover, His Majesty's "Self-sufficiency" economic philosophy—emphasizing moderation, responsible consumption, and resilience to external shocks—is of great relevance worldwide during these times of rapid globalization. His Majesty was also honored by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) with the Agricola Medal in 1995 for His Majesty's devotion to the well-being and happiness of all people in Thailand, particularly those who till the soil, tend the waters and nurture the forests, and the Telefood Medal in 1999 for His Majesty's dedication to Thailand's agricultural development. Furthermore, the International Federation of Inventors' Association (IFIA) has honored His Majesty for the invention of Chaipattana Low Speed Aerator, a paddle-wheel machine in the form of a floating buoy that helps add oxygen to water, thus aiding the water purification process. |
