VAC aims to elevate services for veterans, underprivileged groupsTo achieve the goal, the VAC is streamlining its organization and integrating all resources, including the service department, training and labor service centers, veterans homes, and veterans hospitals to provide the most effective services. Major visions and administrative guidelines of the VAC include: A. Services and caregiving Visiting and taking care of veterans are the core services of the VAC. To better serve the 494,575 veterans who now live outside VAC facilities, since July 2007 the VAC has been working on an experimental project undertaken by Taipei City and Tainan Veterans Service Departments to enhance services. The VAC is also seeking to consolidate resources such as volunteer organizations, neighborhood communities, and local administrative chiefs to "adopt" veterans (or their survivors) who currently live alone, so as to provide more intensive care and reduce the possibility of accidents. B. Sustainable care With the core mission of taking care of veterans, the VAC will help existing veterans homes gradually transform into institutions that provide diversified services ?like public-funded and self-paid retirement homes, nursing homes (including care for disabled people and those with loss of memory), and daycare centers. To implement the Cabinet's "Mega Warmth" program, the VAC will provide services to underprivileged citizens by: 1)Meeting changing social needs by revising relevant regulations and soundly executing the audit system. 2)Effectively utilizing the resources of veterans homes to take care of veterans who live outside of them, as well as ordinary citizens to help the government solve social problems. 3)Building an excellent living environment, upgrading professional service capability, and sharing resources with neighboring communities. | |||||||||||||
