Ten Filipino students are slated to depart for Taiwan later this month to study Mandarin Chinese on

scholarships, Republic of China Representative to the Philippines Wu Hsin-hsing said yesterday.

The scholarship program is founded by the ROC government in an effort to boost Taiwan-Philippine exchanges in culture and education, Wu noted.

The students aged between 24 and 43 will study at nine universities in Taiwan for two or three years, on a NT$30,000 scholarship each month during their studies, according to Wu.

While receiving the students Thursday, Wu briefed them on Taiwan‘s general conditions as part of his efforts to help them adapt to Taiwan‘s lifestyle soon after they arrive on the island.

Wu also encouraged them to serve as ambassadors to help boost Taiwan-Philippines relations and cooperation after they finish their studies and return to their home country.
