Local tennis players move to US Open second round

NEW YORK--Taiwanese tennis players made progress in the doubles competition of the U.S. Open Thursday, with Hsieh Su-wei, and her Chinese partner Peng Shuai, as well as the Chan sisters, making it to the second round of the women's doubles.

Hsieh and Peng, seeded No. 2, came from behind to beat Irina-Camelia Begu of Romania and Karin Knapp of Italy 4-6, 7-5, 6-3.

Chan Yung-jan and her younger sister Hao-ching, seeded 14th, beat Timea Bacsinszky of Switzerland and Donna Vekic of Croatia in two sets 6-1, 6-1.
