LONDON --- Taiwan's Jimmy Wang (王宇佐) advanced to the third round of the men's singles at Wimbledon for the first time Wednesday after beating Russian Mikhail Youzhny 7-6, 6-2, 6-7, 6-3.
Wang, 29, was elated after overcoming the No. 17 seed in 183 minutes.
In a move not commonly seen at Wimbledon or other grand slam tournaments, Wang went to hug his coach Dejan Petrovic, who was seated next to the spectators.
In an interview with CNA, Wang described the win as “particularly important” given the fact that he was unable to take part in his favorite tournament from 2008 to 2011 due to injury.
He will next play the winner of a rain-suspended second-round match between Jo Wilfried Tsonga, the No. 14 seed from France, and American Sam Querrey.
Wang is currently ranked 147th in the world.
