Chan sisters win tennis title at Aegon Int'l

TAIPEI--Taiwan tennis player Chan Yung-jan and her young sister, Chan Hao-ching, won the women's doubles title at the Aegon International tennis tournament in Eastbourne, United Kingdom Sunday.

With the score of 6-3, 5-7 (10-7), the two Chans defeated the pair of Martina Hingis, a former world No. 1 women tennis player from Switzerland, and Flavia Pennetta, an Italian who had been ranked world No. 1 in doubles.

On her Facebook page, the elder Chan said the victory over Hingis and Pennetta greatly boosted her confidence because both Hingis and Pennetta are famous tennis players with great skills and significant experience on various courts.

Although Chan and her sister won the first set 6-3, their rivals came back in the second set 5-7. However, the two Taiwanese players preserved in the playoff, taking the upper hand 10-7 and winning the title.

Chan said this is the second WTA title she and her sister won, and she believed it bode well for their performance at the Wimbledon Championships, which will begin Monday and last until July 6.
