Hsieh falls in opener of Sofia WTA tournament

TAIPEI--Taiwan's Hsieh Su-wei lost to top-seeded Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark 6-2, 6-2 in 60 minutes in her opening match at the season-ending WTA Tournament of Champions in Sofia, Bulgaria.

The 26-year-old Taiwanese struggled on serve all night, getting only half of her first serves in and winning only 52 percent of those first serve points. She was broken five times in eight service games and broke Wozniacki only once.

Nerves may have been a factor for the world No. 27 Hsieh, the first Taiwanese ever to play in the high-profile US$750,000 tournament.
