Bacsinszky takes maiden WTA title

LUXEMBOURG -- Swiss tennis player Timea Bacsinszky won her first WTA title here on Sunday as she beat Germany's Sabine Lisicki 6-2, 7-5 in the US$220,000 final.

The 20-year-old — ranked 70th in the world — took full advantage of the early exits of Belgium's U.S. Open champion Kim Clijsters and highly-favored Danish player Caroline Wozniacki.

Bacsinszky, whose best previous performance was in losing to Dinara Safina in the last 32 of the 2008 U.S. Open, was very humble after her victory.

“I will never be Martina Hingis or Roger Federer, I know that,” said the winner.

“What really is important to me is to have fun out on the court and not to have regrets at the end of my career.”
