Seattle win against Philadelphia to stay at top of Major League Soccer ranks

SEATTLE -- Seattle's Chad Marshall headed in a corner from Marco Pappa in the 84th minute to complete a 2-1 home win over Philadelphia on Saturday, keeping the Sounders atop the Major League Soccer standings.

Seattle fell behind in the 13th minute when Brad Evans put the ball into his own net and the Union held that lead until Obefemi Martins equalized in the 61st.

Philadelphia has got eight games without a win, leveling the club's longest winless sequence.

Toronto 1, New England 2 Defender Doneil Henry made two mistakes that led to New England goals in the Revolution's 2-1 victory at Toronto.

Henry's turnover in the 24th minute led to the first goal for New England, as Daigo Kobayashi sent a through ball for rookie Patrick Mullins, whose beat the diving goalkeeper for his first MLS goal.

Henry compounded the error when he gave away a penalty for hand ball in the 82nd minute and Lee Nguyen converted from the spot.

Toronto had taken the lead through A.J. Soares in the sixth minute but fell to a third-straight defeat.

Chicago 2, Real Salt Lake 3 Real Salt Lake's Joao Plata scored twice in the final 24 minutes, including the winner in stoppage time, to giving the visitors a 3-2 win at a Chicago side that is still winless after eight games.

The Fire lost despite scoring twice in the first 30 minutes, with Mike Magee and Juan Luis Anangono finding the net.

Plata pulled a goal back in the 72nd minute, Alvaro Saborio equalized at the start of stoppage time and then Plata came up with the last-gasp winner for Real Salt Lake, which remained two games behind Seattle for the league's best record.

Colorado 1, Los Angeles 0 Colorado's Vincente Sanchez scored in the 20th minute and the Rapids held on for a win over Los Angeles.

Sanchez, who sat out the second half with a sore left knee, curled a shot between two defenders to record his team-leading fifth goal.

Galaxy striker Robbie Keane had a chance to equalize from the penalty spot in the 62nd but shot wide, and Los Angeles lost its first game in five. The Galaxy has the equal least goals this season, with seven from six games.

Vancouver 3, San Jose 2 Pedro Morales scored twice in a minute in the first half to set up Vancouver's win over San Jose.

Morales scored a penalty in the 19th minute and then hit a long-range shot in the 20th minute. Kekuta Manneh also scored a goal for the Whitecaps.

Chris Wondolowski scored both goals for San Jose (1-3-3) — in the 45th minute and in second-half stoppage time.

Portland 3, D.C. United 2 Portland's Maximiliano Urruti scored in the final minute of stoppage time to give the Timbers a dramatic victory and a belated first game of the season, defeating D.C. United.

But Urruti came off the bench to snap that run with a rebound from just inside the box as United goalkeeper Bill Hamid tumbled to the rainsoaked turf.

Portland twice led, through a first-minute goal by Gaston Fernandez and a Mamadou Danso goal in the 78th, but twice the hosts were pegged back as D.C. equalized through Davy Arnaud in the 21st and a Danso own goal in the 78th.

The loss snapped a five-match undefeated string for United.

Chivas 1, Houston 4 Giles Barnes scored twice in Houston's comfortable win at struggling Chivas.

Houston snapped a six-match winless skid, with Brad Davis and Will Bruin also scoring for Dynamo.

Erick Torres scored the opening goal for Chivas, which won its first game of the season but has not succeeded in eight since.

Chivas was reduced to 10 men when goalkeeper Tim Melia was sent off in the 67th minute for tripping Bruin in the penalty area.
