Borussia Dortmund progress to second round of German Cup

Hoffenheim, however, endured a torrid afternoon in the capital, finishing the first half 3-0 down before a disastrous kick from goalkeeper Tim Wiese, who was making his competitive debut for the visitors, allowed Metin Cakmak to score his second goal.

The win sparked wild celebrations among just under 1,500 Berliner AK fans, whose side only qualified for the competition after beating local rivals SC Gatow in a regional cup final.

“The manner of our exit is shocking. We could even have conceded one or two more,” Hoffenheim coach Markus Babbel said. “I'm stunned and speechless.”

It was the highest margin of victory for a fourth-tier side over a Bundesliga club in the competition.

There were no such problems for Bundesliga teams Bayer Leverkusen, Stuttgart, Borussia Moenchengladbach and Freiburg, which all beat lower-ranked opposition to progress.

Greuther Fuerth, which will play in the top division for the first time this season, lost 2-0 to third-division side Kickers Offenbach later on Saturday.

Fuerth finished with nine players after Edgar Prib and Rahman Baba were sent off in the second half. Kickers Offenbach's Thomas Rathgeber scored in the first. Lars Bender added another goal in injury time.

Wolfsburg had little trouble beating sixth-tier team Schoenberg, with Brazilian midfielder Diego scoring his first competitive goal since returning from Atletico Madrid and former Bayern Munich striker Ivica Olic adding a hat-trick in a 5-0 win.

Earlier, Leverkusen beat Carl Zeiss Jena 4-0, Stuttgart routed sixth-tier side Falkensee-Finkenkrug 5-0, Moenchengladbach overcame local rival Alemannia Aachen 2-0 and Freiburg won 2-1 at Victoria Hamburg.

Cologne, which was relegated from the Bundesliga last season, beat Unterhaching 2-1. There were also victories for second-division sides Duisburg, which won 1-0 at Hallescher FC, and St. Pauli, 3-0 victors at Offenburger FV.

Bochum, also from the second division, won 2-0 at third-tier team Heidenheim.

Dortmund forward Robert Lewandowski's seven goals in the German Cup last season eclipsed the total of five in total scored by Oberneuland in the competition.

He set up Reus brilliantly with a flick in the 10th minute, the German player of the season taking the ball past the goalkeeper to score his first goal in a competitive game for Dortmund after joining from Borussia Moenchengladbach in the offseason.

Blaszczykowski hit Dortmund's second in the 38th and then set up Poland teammate Perisic to kill the game off in the 67th.

Last year's beaten finalist, Bayern Munich, visits Jahn Regensburg on Monday.
